Chinese experience and knowledge on artificial intelligence are now recognized all over the world. Moreover, China is also doing a lot for the progress of artificial intelligence. One of the latest efforts comes from Sensetime, a Chinese artificial intelligence company, which is creating a research center in the United Arab Emirates, with plans to hire hundreds of employees who will focus on artificial intelligence in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The Gulf states, which are looking for new ways to stimulate their economies, have welcomed Sensetime’s presence in Asia and its research and development center in Abu Dhabi, which will mark the company’s first presence in the EMEA region.
In particular, Sensetime is establishing the research and development center with the support of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), which aims to promote commercial activities in the emirate. Xu Li, co-founder and CEO of Sensetime, said: “Abu Dhabi offers us the opportunity to focus on innovation in key sectors, opens a new customer base and, above all, a new talent pool”.

The research center will develop AI for areas such as health care, remote sensing and education. The company aims to provide support to industries and regional governments that use AI. The Abu Dhabi government hopes that its collaboration with Sensetime will help it develop its own knowledge-based economy.
Sensetime, based in Beijing, is in fact one of the most valuable AI startups in the world and already has offices in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan. The company is developing technology for autonomous driving, augmented reality and medicine, but the main goal of Sensetime is image recognition technology.
