After online payment, customers will be able to collect products from over 100 stores in Russia
Alibaba AliExpress launched an online order option for car consumers in Russia. So far, the cross-border e-commerce platform has supported only one brand, which is Chery owned by the Chinese state.
The models of the Tiggo line, together with accessories and other products, are available for online orders on the AliExpress store. After making an upfront payment, customers can complete the transaction and collect their purchases from one of the 100 Chery dealers offline across Russia. AliExpress, questioned on the action, plans to intensify sales of several Chinese auto brands online in Russia in the near future.
The new strategy reduces costs for supply chains
Liu Wei, who heads the business of AliExpress in Russia, said in a press release that sales of the platform’s automotive products increased 20-fold for each day of November, especially during the e-commerce festival launched by Alibaba , known as Singles Day.
According to Liu, online order reduces the investments needed for overseas supply chains of companies and increases efficiency. Moreover, Alibab has expanded its presence in Russia for some time, as also confirmed by a $ 2 billion joint venture agreement signed in September with the local Internet company Mail.ru.
The Chinese digital marketing consultant Ashley Dudarenok told TechNode that the initiative is part of a broader strategy, which aims to establish an early presence in less developed markets, including India, Turkey and Southeast Asia.
