Universities include prestigious universities such as Zhejiang University, Beijing Jiaotong University and Beihang University
China aims to be at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and not only in the field of development. Wu Fei, a professor from the University of Zhejiang, is in fact engaged in creating an online course for new undergraduate students in artificial intelligence (AI).
As early as next September, a total of 35 universities in China will form the first batch of the country to offer a study course on AI. These include prestigious universities such as Zhejiang University, Beijing Jiaotong University and Beihang University.
Students will focus more on mathematics based on probability statistics
Wu, also director of the artificial intelligence institute under Zhejiang University, said: “We designed tailor-made courses, considering the current demand for talent and our advantages in the discipline.”
Chinese students will be among the first to be experts in artificial intelligence and in their studies will focus more on mathematics based on probability statistics. “Probability, statistics, optimization method and Matrix Decomposition, were packaged in a course called Advanced Mathematics, but now they will become four separate courses for AI majors,” Wu said.
The Ministry of Education has issued a detailed action plan
AI has become, over the years, a significant trend for higher education in China. The Ministry of Education has also issued a detailed action plan in 2018, concerning education for artificial intelligence in Chinese universities.
Industry analysts believe this interest reflects China’s huge demand for artificial intelligence talent. Not only the emerging AI companies, but also some traditional industries such as manufacturing and textiles are awaiting transformation and updating through AI technology.
