Alibaba Platform 1688 released China’s first survey report about foreign models. The report conducted a sample survey of 100,000 suppliers in the 1688 cross-border market and nearly one million cross-border buyers from AliExpress, Amazon and Wish. It found that foreign models in China averaged 18 years old and earned daily salaries of USD 1470.
According to data, the total number of foreign models in China is about 10,000. 7000 foreign models are active in Alibaba e-commerce platform every day. Among them, 3,000 models belong to professional models with work visas; the remaining 7,000 amateur models are mainly from foreign students and foreigners in China.
The report shows that professional foreigner models can only work in China for 90 days, so they usually only stay in China for a short time. Especially from July to September of each year, a large number of foreign models came to China. This is the peak period of these e-commerce platform promotions, including Double 11, Christmas season and “Black Friday”.
It also shows that foreign models currently in China are between the ages of 16 and 20, with an average age of 18 years. Three years ago, the average age was 20 years old
The rejuvenation of main consumer groups has become younger in their choice of model styles. Russia, Ukraine and Eastern Europe are the main force of the foreigner models.
In the past two years, the proportion of mixed-blood and Latin America models has increased. This is inseparable from the changes in China’s e-commerce market. Because of the rise of cross-border e-commerce, the demand in the European and American models has become larger. Among Chinese foreign models, the ratio of male to female is 1:5.
Foreign models have not only become increasingly developed in northern China’s first-tier cities, but Hangzhou has become the most concentrated city for foreign models. In the past 3 to 5 years, the demand for foreign models in Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen has grown rapidly. More and more foreign models are developing their business in Xiamen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi’an, Tianjin and Fuzhou. These cities are highly consistent with the top 20 Chinese cross-border e-commerce cities.
