Tmall’s “Double 11” or “Singles Day”, is arguably the largest shopping day in the world, but it may be surpassed by the new Alipay sponsored retail event “Double 12”.
While Double 11 offers deep discounts of online products on Nov. 11, Double 12 coaxes customers’ offline consumption habits one month later on Dec. 12.
Better Than Christmas Discounts
“I didn’t expect to be able to buy things with Alipay at the largest shopping mall in France! I’m getting better discounts than locals,” said Chinese tourists in Paris. On Double 12, another Chinese tourist used Alipay at the famous luxury department store, Printemps, saying, “What a surprise! My French friends said it’s cheaper than Christmas discounts for locals!”
More than one hundred thousand stores offer Alipay in 15 countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. These stores include catering, transportation, shopping and travel.
Double 11 is popular around the world, and Double 12 also has the chance to become a global promotional event. Helen Rotella, financial manager of AWPL Group, which owns well-known brands such as Around Australia, said, “Double 12 is not only a Chinese festival but also our holiday. Our team is ready to welcome Chinese tourists. We prepared Alipay, Chinese service, and assembled our best-sellers list for Chinese tourists.”
Now, as long as Chinese consumers bring their phones, they can shop, eat, travel, and take public transportation with Alipay.
