Cross-border is showing to EU how China and Europe have such great potential for exchanges and cooperation. Wallonia is ready to host the first EU Cross border E-commerce Forum
Zhejiang is one of China’s smallest but richest provinces. Nestled between Shanghai and Fujian, this province is now believed to drive the 21st-century Chinese technological revolution. Known as the “Chinese Silicon Valley,” Hangzhou is the headquarters of e-commerce giant Alibaba, which has made it earn the title of “e-commerce capital of China”.
In April 2016, the government even designated the city as one of the country’s ten cross-border e-commerce pilot cities giving it preferential status to facilitate tax policy and handle foreign goods. Recently, Zhejiang became extremely important for the BRI as a crucial hub for the China-EU connection.

Although the first China-Europe freight train service was launched in Zhengzhou, Henan province, in 2017, the China Railway Corporation – Beijing’s national rail network operator – officially inaugurated a new direct freight train connecting the Zhejiang province with Europe. The train travels from Yiwu to the eastern suburbs of London via Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Belgium, and France.
Among these European countries, Belgium represents a real partner for what concerns the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. Since last year, a new important route was settled down due to connect China with the Belgian region of Wallonia, where next December, Cifnews will host the first edition of the EU Cross-Border E-Commerce Forum (EU CBEC Forum)
EU countries are ready to cooperate with Beijing and Chinese investments are more than welcomed in Europe.Belgium already set model for China-EU cooperation.
Beijing is ready with Brussels to strengthen the cooperation between two countries and exchanges at all levels. Belgium is the natural gateway between east and west in the heart of Europe, that’s why the Walloon city was chosen to held the first EU-China Cross-Border E-commerce Conference. Belgium is a reliable partner of China in Europe. Last year in October, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visited Belgium to strengthen cooperation between Brussels and Beijing.
His tours come amid China’s efforts to boost economic and trade ties with Europe against the backdrop of rising unilateralism and protectionism in the world. That’s the reason why Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group, announced last december an agreement with Liège Airport to build a world-class smart logistics hub at Liège Airport, expected to open in early 2021.
Cainiao also launched an intercontinental cargo flight between Hangzhou and Liège to ensure fast delivery of goods in 2018.
The project ultimately contributes to Alibaba Group’s goal to facilitate trade, particularly for accessing the China market, as part of the company’s commitment to serve as the “Gateway to China” and help import US$200 billion worth of quality goods from the world to China over the next five years, said Wallonia Export-Investment Agency (AWEX) in a press release. Now Belgium is ready to host the first EU Cross border E-commerce Forum.
