“The most important thing for me is to satisfy the needs of consumers,”said Ding Lei, Founder of NetEase Inc., during the 2017 World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China. “NetEase has employed vast buyers to purchase global items for Chinese consumers. NetEase started to operate cross-border e-commerce just four years ago. Also, there are millions of consumers in China. However, Chinese consumers have difficulty buying global items. They need to fly around the world and bring back many suitcases and packages. My company tries to offer a convenient shopping channel for Chinese consumers through its cross-border e-commerce platform. I hope that the Chinese government will further improve relevant policies to encourage more consumers to shop online via cross-border e-commerce.”
The NetEase cross-border e-commerce platform is called “Kaola”. Since 2015, each item, sold on the platform is selected, filtrated, and inspected by NetEase executives. According to data of iiMedia Research Group, “Kaola” has had the biggest market share for seven consecutive quarters. Also, Netease’s third-quarter financial results, released on November 16th, show that their net income has reached 37.35 billion.
