Pinduoduo, large city consumers prefer its agricultural products

Consumers from big cities have turned out to be the largest group of buyers for these products

 

Forget about agricultural products as goods that can only be found on the farm, in the countryside or by specialized retailers. In fact, Pinduoduo is revolutionizing this market. According to the e-commerce company, as stated in a press release, a total of agricultural products worth over 6.7 billion RMB (almost $ 1 billion) were sold on Pinduoduo between June 1 and June 12, with a 310% increase on an annual basis.

More than 70% of these products, which include oranges and salted duck eggs, were purchased by consumers living in China’s first tier cities. The consumers of these big cities have, in fact, proved to be the largest consumer group for these products, also thanks to the convenience and the best taste.

To explain the success of these products is Wang Tao, chief analyst of the Pinduoduo big data analysis center, which he explained is possible because the products are imported directly from the production bases.

 

Pinduoduo is gaining popularity even in big cities

 

Pinduoduo’s internal data on sales of agricultural products in this particular promotional period reflect those of the market research firm on demographic changes Jiguang.

As shown by the Jiguang data, in fact, 44.2% of the newly acquired users of Pinduoduo in the first quarter came from first and second tier cities. Furthermore, Pinduoduo’s financial reports show that in the first quarter of the year there were 444.3 million active monthly users, while in the last quarter of 2018 there were 418.5 million.

Both Pinduoduo’s own data and Jiguang’s data indicate that the e-commerce company is gaining popularity even in the big cities, as well as in the third-sixth level in which Pinduoduo has found its niche for some time.
