Shanghai, full 5G coverage by 2020

According to the guidelines, 10,000 5G base stations will be built by the end of 2019 to cover the entire center and main suburban areas of Shanghai. By 2020, the city will have full 5G coverage across the city with 20,000 base stations.

Subsequently, by 2021, Shanghai will have 5G-connected industries worth 100 billion yuan and 100 innovative companies in the 5G application sectors. The city will add another 10,000 base stations and 10 billion yuan based on 2020 numbers.

For the development of the city, the true motive and revolution of 5G, Shanghai will publish a three-year action plan to promote 5G in key areas such as production, transport, medical care, education, leisure, entertainment and city administration.
