The app has been independently developed for over a year and is now ready for its official launch

Charles Zhang, CEO of Sohu, announced the launch of Sohu’s new social media app called “Huyou”. The app has been independently developed for over a year and is now ready for its official launch.

Sohu is a Beijing-based Internet company and its subsidiaries offer a variety of services, including search engine, advertising, news, online multiplayer games and more.

CEO Charles Zhang explained that the new social media app represents Sohu’s future

Zhang explained that the company’s most popular news and video services are the present, while the new social media app represents Sohu’s future. He is convinced that social media products will generate exponential growth in terms of volume of users and activities, which is why the company is placing a significant emphasis on its development.

“Sohu currently has a very clear business model. Our next steps are to develop better products and reach more users. To do this, social media is a great place to start,” Zhang said.

Huyou will never send advertisements, suggestions or recommendations to its users

The constant change in the social media ecosystem in China is inseparable from the development of new technologies. Three months ago, three new social media apps were launched simultaneously in China: Chat Bao, Duoshan and Matong. These could threaten the Chinese giant of the WeChat social apps. Now Sohu joins the fray with Huyou.

To cope with the other social apps that are already present in China, Huyou has its salient points and characteristics to differentiate itself from others. Zhang explained that Huyou will never send advertisements, suggestions or recommendations to its users, so that users’ deadlines are filled only with their own social circles.
