The news is confirmed by an email sent by Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi
Xiaomi wants to concentrate its efforts on opening a department dedicated to strengthening smartphone camera capabilities. To confirm this, there is an email that comes directly from Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi.
In the email, Lei says: “The company has decided to set up a separate camera department within the smartphone division. With the company’s resources, we aim to build smartphone cameras capable of taking world-class quality photos!”.
Lei also announced that Zhu Dan, currently serving as director of Xiaomi’s electrical engineering, will head the new department.
The choice denotes the desire of Xiaomi to climb the ranking on the quality of the smartphone camera
Xiaomi’s move seems to be decidedly in line with the market, as all major Chinese smartphone makers, such as Huawei, OPPO and Meizu have focused on creating high-end cameras for their new models.
Following the ranking drawn up by DxOMark, the leading source of image quality ratings for smartphones, the main opponent of Xiaomi is Huawei, which currently leads the world rankings with the best smartphone camera on the market, followed by Samsung.
